Mission Viejo Tree Planting
Trees are vital to life. Not only do they give us oxygen, they reduce the amount of storm water runoff and provide us with food as well. However, in recent decades, deforestation has become an issue that threatens all life as we know it. Contributing to problems like climate change, soil erosion, flooding, increased greenhouse gases, and less abundant crop yields, all life on earth has been impacted by deforestation. By signing up to volunteer at this tree planting, you will be directly impacting the environment in a positive way, working to undo the damage we have done to the environment. It starts with a community in order to make a global impact, and by participating in this tree planting, you will not only be adding to the beauty of Mission Viejo City, you will be laying the foundation for a brighter, more sustainable future! Take it upon yourself to be the change you want to see and help us help the environment that sustains us everyday!
This event is run by MV_Eduenviro, a student led environmental action project that is dedicated to helping the environment by reaching out to the local communities here in Southern California. This event has been organized in collaboration with the City of Mission Viejo. It is a great way to earn volunteer hours/points for any school club or organization (ie. CSF/NHS/Lion's Heart). Volunteers will gain upwards of 3 volunteer hours.

Mission Viejo Tree Planting will take place at the Upper Oso Creek Trail, near Village Green in Oso Viejo Park. Volunteers will meet at NPM Community and Senior Center. It is recommended that volunteers wear closed-toe shoes, as well as appropriate dress for the type of work and the weather on the day of the event. Volunteers will be digging and planting trees (1 or 2 trees per volunteer/volunteer group), so we urge you to be mindful of your physical abilities when signing up for this event. All materials and tools (shovels, gloves, trees) will be provided by us on the day of the event (volunteers are welcome to bring their own gloves). Water will be provided too. Masks are required. Please arrive 15-30 minutes before the event to account for parking, finding and walking to the event site, and fixing any last minute issues.
Volunteers should be at least 12 years of age.

A follow up email with more information will be sent within 48 hours of volunteer sign up.

Beach Clean Up
Beach Clean Up will take place at T-Street Beach in San Clemente. It will be a fun, 2 hour event from 9:30 to 11:30 AM. It is recommended that volunteers arrive 15-30 minutes prior to the start time, as parking and walking to the beach may take some time. Volunteers will pick up as much trash as they can from the beach and put it into plastic bags (provided by us). This event is a great source of volunteer hours, especially for those in CSF and NHS. The event is relatively relaxed as it is at a beach, but we remind volunteers that there will be lots of physical labor involved, so we suggest that you remain mindful of your physical abilities and limitations when signing up for this event. As this event takes place at T-Street Beach, closed-toe shoes are NOT a requirement, however, choice of clothing and footwear is at the volunteer's own discretion. We recommend wearing a hat and sunscreen if it is sunny on the day of the event. Refreshments and supplies will be provided by us. All volunteers are required to bring their signed liability and media release form on the day of the event (Saturday, April 17, 2021).
